Laugh, play games, goof around, have a chat and do what you usually do. I don't take things too seriously. As someone who is totally awkward in front of the camera, I understand how vulnerable many people feel during their session and try to make the time together as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.
A family session generally lasts around 90 minutes and a newborn session can run anywhere from 90 minutes to two and a half hours.
I shoot all around Melbourne and have travelled to Gippsland, to the high country of Victoria and interstate. The session should reflect you: this could be at the beach, your home, the local coffee shop...the list is endless.
Locations outside the Mornington/Mount Martha area may incur a travel fee depending on the location. I love to travel and always welcome new and exciting locations!
The most important thing is to wear something you feel amazing in, that the kids feel comfortable in. This helps everyone feel confident and relaxed during the session which will definitely come through in your images.
Try to avoid loud prints & patterns that will distract from the subject in the image. For young children (and adults) it is best to avoid characters printed on clothes as our eye tends to be drawn to the print rather than the person in the photograph.
For group/family sessions - you don’t all need to match! I tend to steer people away from the old “matching white t-shirt and jeans” scenario - if you don’t all go out daily in matching attire, why do it for your session?
Wear complimenting tones - think creams, greys, denims, dusty pinks & mustards, whites and beige.
